Learn the fundamentals of games programming and development and gain an understanding of skills and techniques necessary to create fun, innovative games.

Content

Session 1 Loading Sprites (2D Graphics) and getting them Moving and Bouncing.
Session 2 Making several asteroids, Getting a spaceship to fly around and collide with them.
Session 3 Introduction of Structures and lists. Adding the ability to fire bullets and break up the asteroids.
Session 4 Introduce functions to break up and modularise code. Add Text output for Score, Lives, Levels, make a Menu.
Session 5 Making the game multiplayer, having the choice between a single player and multiplayer game.
Session 6 Adding Sound effects and creating your own particle effects.

Outcomes

Session 1 Students will cover how to load, move and Draw sprites and also cover variables, conditionals and flow control via if statements.
Session 2 Students will cover how to use arrays to create several objects, students will learn some basic Photoshop skills to create basic sprites for their game.
Session 3 Students will cover using structures, lists and loops giving the ability to dynamically create objects with much more ease.
Session 4 Students will cover how to write and use functions to modularise the code for reuse and easier maintenance.
Session 5 Students will use the skills learned in the previous sessions to add a multiplayer element to their game.
Session 6 Students will learn how to implement sound and create particle effects to add the last finishing touches to their game.

What you should bring

Pen, Paper and at least a 2GB thumb drive or other USB storage devices (mp3 players, iPod etc).
