Content

Break down the barriers to develop an understanding of the basics of Maya – an industry standard 3D animation package. Learn how to navigate the otherwise complex interface to quickly and start manipulating 3D objects. Gain an understanding of character and object modelling including adding textures and colour, and applying lighting effects enabling you to render a still image. Upon grasping the basics then start understanding the concepts of animating objects – learn the basics of facial animation blend shapes and morphing, then appreciate key frames and animation curves to render your animation.

Course Outline

Session 1 Introduction to interface
Creation of primitives
Manipulating basic 3D objects
Editing 3D object components
Session 2 Basic modelling tools
Applying materials to objects (texturing and colour)
Simple lighting
Rendering still images
Session 3 Fundamentals of animation
Simple facial animation
Blend shapes and morphing
Key frames and animation curves
Rendering animation
